Summary

Clements High School is a public high school in Limestone County, Alabama, serving grades 6-12 with a student population of 560. The school's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally below the state and county averages across various subjects and grade levels. However, Clements High School has maintained a relatively high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 86.1% to 90.0% over the past few years, on par with the graduation rates of nearby high schools in the Limestone County district.

One key area of concern for Clements High School is its chronic absenteeism rate, which has fluctuated from 8.4% to 27.2% over the past few years, generally higher than the state and county averages. Interestingly, the school's performance in serving its special education student population is strong, ranking 10th out of 182 Alabama high schools in 2022-2023 for this subgroup. This suggests the school may have effective strategies and resources in place to support its special education students.

Compared to nearby high schools, Clements High School's academic performance is generally lower than schools like Elkmont High School, Tanner High School, and West Limestone High School. However, Clements High School performs better than some other nearby schools outside the Limestone County district, such as East Lawrence High School and West Morgan High School.

Open Quote I am an alumnus from Clements High School, and now attending University of Alabama in Huntsville. I moved to Clements in the 10th grade, and was in the Advanced Diploma program at Clements.

Clements is a high school ran by crowd favorites rather than qualified individuals. The administration allows the faculty to run wild. The majority of the high school faculty do NOT teach. Half of my classes, my classmates and I sat in our seats playing with cell phones and talking. The teachers that have tenure let the students do what they want for the class period. The teachers are required to take a grade every week and put it in the grade book. Every week, our only grade was if we brought our text book to class. That is going on in the classroom of a teacher that has his MA in Education, so much for American History. My senior English course was a joke. The teacher was to teach us how to write a research paper. He assigned a research paper due in 4 months. 2 pages minimum! When he got them back, he told us the majority were horrible and we were going to forget this happened. He scaled the grades from Fs and Ds to As and Bs, and said that was a waste of time and we won't spend anytime on something so bad. This teacher received his MA in Education as well.

Many more teachers are doing this same thing across the curriculum. Something must be done, but until there is a complete overhaul in administration and faculty, the problem will persist and only get worse. Close Quote
