As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I don't know who ranked this school so poorly, but I question whether or not you have any children in this school. PGES is an excellent school and the staff does a great job with the students. No school is perfect, but this school is far from a one-star elementary school. Close Quote

Open Quote After being in a different AL School District for 5 yrs, a school district that did what law said & what we asked & we were happy with. We had to move to Jefferson County School district w/a job transfer.
We were more than disappointed w/Pleasant Grove Elementary. The administration was less than satisfying. By administration I mean Principal Jacks & Asst. Principal Lightsey. I was lied to over & over by them. They kept claiming that they could not do certain things w/my son, who is Sp Ed. But I did my homework & found out that they COULD do the things I was requesting. They refused over & over even when I took a book of the Sp Ed laws in the State of AL & threw it in their faces. We went to the Jefferson County School Board & again was disappointed. No one seemed to care whether our son learned anything or not. Everyone seemed more concerned about the schools test scores. We thought about suing the school system, but decided to just home school instead. My son has learned more being home schooled than he did in his 2 yrs in Pleasant Grove Elem. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
