| by a student Saturday, October 2, 2010 I went to this school from 2007 to 2010 and I have to say that I believe that this is the best middle school district two can offer. You instantly make new friends, connect with your teachers, and everyone is always trying to help you learn and be successful. Enough kids got into specialized schools (Such as Bronx Science, Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech, LaGuardia) that it wasn't even a surprise if you found out that someone got into Stuyvesant. The scores on the SHSAT were extremely high too, as I have friends who got 617 and 623. You also shouldn't judge this school based on how much homework you will get, because even though it may seem like a lot, it's totally fair and challenging. If someone were to get behind anyone can help, as we have such a nice learning environment. I've also heard that people think that this school will end up really boring because we're a whole bunch of nerds, but it's really not. I mean, the nerds part is true, but we have tons of fun. I say, from what I heard (which may not have been much), about 30-40 kids got into Stuyvesant, 15-20 kids got into Bronx Science, 20ish kids got into Brooklyn Tech and about 20 got into LaGuardia, for arts, acting and vocal. This is out of 200 per grade, and those who didn't go to specialized schools either went to private schools or schools such as the Lab High School, Beacon, Eleanor Roosevelt and Bard High School Early College, which are all excellent schools. ANOTHER NOTE: Right now I go to Bronx Science with multiple friends in Brooklyn Tech and Stuyvesant. After hearing from them, I've realized that this school's foreign language department is extremely strong. Though we only take spanish, our teachers exceed the requirements before the profeciency exam we have at the end of our eighth grade year. I know this because I talk to people who are in the same spanish class as I have and they got similar scores on the profeciency and yet I far surpass their spanish speaking, writing, and reading skills. This is also the case for my other Labbie friends. I just had to add that. I HIGHLY recommend this school for your child, I had tons of fun, and am happy that I went there :]
