As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Summit Academy is generally recommended for their IB Program. However, if your child is enrolled into the IB Program, prepare for the immense amount of homework that is provided, that inevitably has your child feeling overwhelmed with a sense of anxiety. Beyond the IB Program, there is not much effort placed anywhere else.

The principal Mr. Andrew's has been with this school for years, which is why nothing at this school has changed. The bathrooms have no mirrors, the school does not allow the kids to go out a their lunch period to sit outside. Let alone, having to ask to go to the bathroom appears to be a control factor for all the teachers. Your child will continually be questioned on why they need to use the restroom and continually told no. If they do use the restroom, the teachers will hold them back and explain that, that cannot be allowed. This school treats their kids like they're in a prison but receiving education that prepares them for college and anti-anxiety medication.

If your child ends up taking Spanish, prepare your child to be singled out if the teacher does not like them. There is no rhyme or reason as to why Sra. Orozco does not like specific children, but when brought to the attention of the school, nothing is done because she is the only Spanish instructor they have. They will provide you with the option of just removing your child from the class, versus correcting the behavior with the actual instructor.

Unlike other middle schools, there are no celebrations. No school dances, no 8th grade promotions and overall just a lack of complete joy and celebration. If even brought to the attention, Mr. Andrews will provide you with reasoning that years back they had to spend 10k on removing gum from tables. Even if no school dances or celebrations occur, the school DOES NOT allow the children to do their own celebrations. For instance, Halloween, there is no dressing up. For Christmas or even other holidays you cannot provide gifts to your friends. Then god forbid, it being the last week of school and kids are excited, Mr. Andrews yet again will suck the joy out of that, by providing your children with detention for the most ridiculous reasons. While your children are in detention I would also prepare your child to hear all about the "crazy sex" stories that the front office staff wants to swap back and forth with each other while your child sits there.

Should we now talk about bullying? Probably so. If your child is bullied or witnesses bullying and brings it to their teachers attention, prepare for teachers to shrug it off and just tell your child "Well, what can you expect, they voted for _____". Who knew that bullying was now part of politics and that was being taught at school, I must have missed that memo.

Summit Academy Jr High is the biggest joke, and Mesa Public Schools should be embarrassed on how this school still functions. Do not send your children here, unless you have enough energy to continually advocate for them, their academics and mental well being. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
