As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Teachers = excellent through perhaps somewhat conservative in methodology. This is balanced by separate classes in art, music, circus arts, and PE.

Administration = terrible-- disrespect to the level of contempt for parents, almost impossible to reach the office by phone.
Basically, this means you have to make a real effort to form a strong, direct relationship with the teacher and with other parents, and just don't expect much from the administration, not even a phone call back to answer a question.

General: Your child will get a good education if they are up for the challenge-- it is challenging so be prepared to support your child if they need it. The student body is very diverse in class, race, nationality, and philosophy of the parents-- this means that you will probably bump in to a lot of other parents who think differently from you. Keep an open mind, and you will realize that this can actually be good, as much as it would feel easier to be in a school where everyone thought pretty much the same way you do. An added benefit: you can learn or hone your ability in the target language alongside your child! Close Quote

Open Quote Have something useful to share about this school? Write your thoughts here... (optional)When ISL first opened I thought their mission was wonderful and they exceed all expectations. After Katrina, the whole system, collapsed.Nothing was done to help the retuning student who had missed a lot of their immersion in their core language although a lot of promises were made. This caused many students to language and struggle and play catch up if you can which I must say, many even though they struggle are holding on with no help from ISL. The only hope you give is to go to sylvan, instead of leaving out non essential courses like circus arts and having classes for children that need help in math, etc. Many parents or grandparents are qualified to teach math or help with beginning languages. All you have to do is put out the word.I AM A GRANDPARENT Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
