As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have lived in Suffield all my life, but have gone to private schools out of town due to the lacking of academic challenges in the public school systems. In high school I decided to try out the public high school. I lasted a quarter in Suffield High School before I transferred to a different private school because of just how lacking the school was in academics and enthusiasm. The teachers had no interest in helping us learn or succeed. The kids and teachers alike had a bad attitude overall and had no interest in helping to challenge the students or themselves. The kids in the school were very exclusive and had no interest in meeting new people; they'd rather sit in their circle and discuss nail polish and clothing than academics and their future. Many kids came to school either hung over, drunk, or high. The teachers knew this, but decided to do nothing about it. Because of the school's negative attitude it gave me a negative attitude toward learning and I was no longer motivated. When I talked to my guidance counselor about how I felt, he did nothing to improve the situation. I felt like I didn't belong in this unmotivated group of people with no idea where their lives should be going. There weren't even enough places to sit at lunch. Even in the winter my friends and I would have to eat outside due to the lack of available seats inside the school. Even after a just a quarter I was behind when I started in my new school even though I had received top grades at the public school. The teachers at Suffield always assumed the students were up to no good even if they were simply asking to go to the bathroom. There were video cameras around every corner, which were necessary at Suffield High School. There were drug dealers in the school and everyone knew who they were. I told a teacher at one point and she said that it wasn't her place to get involved because I had no proof. Because the high school is not up to par, my parents have to spend money they set aside for my college education for my high school education, not only for me, but for my sibling as well. My parents and I were so disappointed with the school and feel strongly that the high school is not setting students up for success, but failure. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
